Two days after Army was crowned the 2005 Patriot League men's golf team champion and Bucknell sophomore Charlie Waddell (Wilmette, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) the individual winner, the League office announced the All-League team.
In accordance with League policy, the Patriot League men's golf All-League team is made up of the top ten finishers at the championship, and in this case 11 players were recognized due to a tie for 10th place. Waddell and his teammate, junior Ben Pellicani (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) were named to the first team, along with American freshman Kevin Horan (Marina Del Ray, Calif./Loyola) and a pair of Black Knights from the winning Army squad: senior Scott Manley (Dove Canyon, Calif./Santa Margarita), the 2002 Patriot League men's golf champion, and senior Pete Phipps (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson).
The Bison tandem of Waddell and Pellicani entered the history books during the championship, which was played in wet, windy and cold conditions in Lewisburg, Pa. Waddell's overall score of 209 matched the best-ever score in Patriot League championship history, while Pellicani's second round-65 tied the lowest round score in League history. Waddell bested his teammate Pellicani by a single stroke thanks to birdies on two of the final three holes.
The second team was comprised of American's Adam Kolloff, Army's Austin Luher, Pat Beverly and Joey Cave, Holy Cross' Matt Czarnecki and Lehigh's Ross Feldman.
Only Manley (2002 & 2004), Phipps (2003 & 2004) and Waddell (2004) have been recognized on previous All-League teams. Seven of this year's 11 honorees are freshmen or sophomores, which pays tribute to the young talent in the Patriot League.
On Sunday at the championship, additional awards were handed out to Horan (Rookie of the Year), as well as Bucknell's Jim Cotner and Colgate's Brad Houston (Co-Coaches of the Year).
Army now awaits its draw for the 2005 NCAA Men's Golf Championship. The Black Knights captured their ninth League title at the Bucknell Golf Club with a 20-over par 860.
