Navy senior Brian Crum and junior Billy Hurley each carded scores of 107 through 27 holes on a rainy, cold day on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club to share the individual lead and lift the Midshipmen to the top of the pack in the team scores after Day One of the 54-hole, 2-day Patriot League Golf Championship Tournament Saturday.

Navy's 442 is 15-strokes better than Army and Lehigh (457), which are tied for second place at the midway point of the event. American (467) owns a one-stroke lead over Lafayette (467) for fourth place, followed by Bucknell (477), Colgate (494) and Holy Cross (510).

Crum and Army senior Kevin Lee were the only players to play par golf (72) on the first 18 holes of the tournament. Hurley made the first 18-hole turn at 73 while Army's Pete Phipps, Bucknell's Abby Valentine and Lehigh's Nam Kyu Park all carded 74's to be within two strokes of the individual title.

On the last nine holds of the day, Hurley carded a 34 to move into a tie with Crum, who shot a 35, heading into the second day of competition. The only other player with a 35 on the last nine of the day was Lehigh's Patrick McCahill, which put two LU players among the top six in the individual standings and helped the Mountain Hawks move into a tie for second place.

Phipps enters the second day of competition alone in third place with a two-over-par 27-hole score of 110, which is three strokes behind Crum and Hurley. Tied for fourth are McCahill and Lee, each with 111, while Park has a 112 and Navy's Joey Kistler is at 113.

Rounding out the top 10 are Valentine, American's Chris Schieffer and Navy's Nick Rogers, all with seven-over-par scores of 115.

The final day of competition begins Sunday at 8 a.m.
