Navy junior golfer Nick Rogers (Lothian, Md.) has been selected as the Middle Atlantic Region Co-Player of the Month by the NCAA District II Coaches Committee. Rogers and George Washington's Thomas Blankvoort earned the honor after posting three top-10 finishes over the last month.
"I am very happy for Nick," said Navy head coach Pat Owen. "He has worked extremely hard in his three years at Navy and his results are a direct reflection of that work. He is shooting some great scores on championship golf courses from the back tees during competition, which is the ultimate challenge for a college golfer."
Rogers posted a seventh-place finish at the Colonial Intercollegiate (Mar. 25-26), while producing a pair of fifth-place finishes at the Treasure Coast Classic (Mar. 15-16) and the Navy Invitational (April 6-7).
In just his second meet of the spring season, Rogers produced a 1-over par 145 to place fifth at the Treasure Coast Classic and lead the Mids to a fourth-place team finish. His 145 at the Colonial Intercollegiate was 1-over par and he was just four shots back from the top medalist. Navy as a team finished seventh in that competition. Rogers was the Mids' top finisher at the Navy Spring Invitational on a weekend which the greens were exceptionally fast. He finished behind two national-caliber individuals from top-25 ranked Minnesota with a 152. Navy placed second behind the Gophers, just nine shots back.
Rogers and his teammates conclude regular-season competition
this weekend when they travel to Middletown, Del., to compete in the
Scottie Duncan Memorial played at the Frog Hollow Country Club. Action
is slated for Saturday and Sunday.
