Golf Team Travels To North Carolina

WEST POINT, N.Y. -

The Army golf team will play its final tune-up to the Patriot League Tournament this weekend at the Wolfpack Spring Open in Raleigh, N.C.

Army is one of 17 teams participating in the 36-hole event at the par-72, 7,358-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course.

The tournament will get underway with 18 holes Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and conclude with an 18-hole final round Sunday at 8 a.m.

In addition to Army and North Carolina State, the tournament field includes Binghamton Drexel, East Carolina, Francis Marion, George Mason, James Madison, Lamar, Louisville, Middle Tennessee State, Troy, Connecticut, Louisiana-Monroe, Navy and Valparaiso.

Army is playing its final event before the league championships, April 28 and 29, in Lewisburg, Pa., at Bucknell Golf Club.

The Black Knights finished ninth at the 14-team Rutherford Intercollegiate at Penn State’s Blue Course last weekend.

Army will send senior William Park, junior Matt Philie, sophomores Brandon Baerwaldt and Anthony Kim and freshman Robby Hill to North Carolina.

Kim, who tied for second place last weekend at the Rutherford, leads the team in scoring with a 75.6 average, a stroke better than Philie (76.8). Baerwaldt (77.2) and Park (77.5) are not far behind while Hill averages an 81.5.
