Colgate Golf Jumps Starts Season with Fifth Place Finish at Iona Invite

The Colgate University golf team finished fifth with a team score of 630 at the Iona Spring Invite held over the weekend in Pinehurst, N.C.

The event, Colgate's first of the spring season, was held at the Whispering Pines Country Club, where eight teams competed in two rounds on two different courses with pars of 72 and 71.

Senior Taylor Rogers (La Jolla, Calif.) led the Raiders with a 152 to finish tied for fifth overall, his highest career finish. Rogers shot a 76 both days. Sophomore Ricky Hayes (Ridgefield, Conn.) shot a 156 to finish tied for 13th, scoring a 78 in both rounds. Alex Plunkett (Sudbury, Mass.) shot a career low 70 in round two in addition to his 88 in round one to finished 21st with a 158. Pat Bauer (West Hartford, Conn.) notched a 165 to finished tied for 34th and Keaton Cross (Waxhaw, N.C.) finished tied for 37th with a 166.

Host school Iona won the tournament with a team score of 609, while Siena's `A' group took second with a 611 and Navy's `Gold' team took third with a 616.

The Raiders will compete in the George Washington Invitational from March 24-26 at Bear Trap Dunes in Bethany Beach, Delaware.
