Two Patriot League Schools Name Interim Golf Coaches
Feb. 5, 2010 Center Valley, Pa. - A pair of Patriot League golf teams have named interim head coaches for the spring season, as Colgate hired Rob Cornell and Army named Lt. Col. Robert Kewley to the posts recently. A native of Hamilton and an avid golfer, Cornell has been playing Seven Oaks Golf Course for many years, which is the site of the 2010 Patriot League Championship. Cornell's father, Bob, recently retired as the Director of Athletic Communications at Colgate, where he was responsible for all publicity and public relation matters concerning the Raider athletic department for the last 33 years. Cornell is taking the place of Mac Gifford, who has been the head coach for the previous two seasons but is taking a leave of absence for the spring. Kewley was a four-year letterwinner on the Army golf team and a member of the West Point Class of 1988. He served as team captain for his final two seasons, was a part of three wins against Service Academy rival Navy and competed at the NCAA Regionals. He takes over the program from Maj. Chad Bagley, who will be attending the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College Intermediate Level Education Common Core Course. Bagley was named interim head golf coach when long-time head coach Jimmy Ray Clevenger retired.
