LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Hit by rain delays throughout the day, the Army golf team continues to sit in 26th place at the 2002 NCAA Central Regional at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Little Rock, Ark. Friday.
Scott Manley continues to lead the Black Knights tied for 81st place. Able to play only 12 holes today, the Patriot League "Player of the Year" is currently seven-over-par with a total 128 after 30-holes. Manley shot an opening round 76.
Kevin Lee is tied with Manley with a team best 52 in the second round after 12 holes. Lee is tied for 122nd with a 30-hole 135.
Pete Mangold is tied for 127th (80-56-136). David Crawford (80-58-138) and Ryan Hazelton (85-53-138) are tied for 130th place.
The Black Knights returned to the NCAA Regional after a seven year absence. Army participated in the East Regional on six occasions from 1989 to 1995. The Black Knights highest finish was 16th in 1992 at the East Regional at Colgate. Army also played in the NCAA Championship in 1986 taking 31st place.
Army won the Patriot League Championship on April 21 by an impressive 29 strokes to receive the leagues automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
The Black Knights will conclude the second round tomorrow, May 18. The team will tee off at 8:30 a.m. EDT.
