Army Golf Finishes Season Second at Montclair Invite

WEST ORANGE, N.J. - Mark Erwin and Jimmy Fisher tied for fifth place as the Army golf team finished the season with a second place showing at the Montclair State Spring Invitational held at the Crestmont Country Club in West Orange, N.J., Monday afternoon.

The Black Knights and host Montclair State were tied for first place with 324 strokes before the Red Hawks were declared the winner following a playoff. Adelphi finished in third place four strokes (328) behind the winner. ESU (334) took fourth place and Rutgers-Camden (341) finished fifth to round out the top five teams.

Sophomore Erwin and freshman Fisher carded matching 79 on the par 72 course. Sophomore Shane Mercer shot an 82 and tied for 12th place. Sophomore Bryon Vincent shot an 84 and Drake Bailey finished with 89 strokes.

Medallist Hugh Arbuthnut from Rutgers-Camden shot a two-over-par 74.

The Black Knight concluded their 2002-03 schedule on Monday at the Montclair State Invitational. Army took third place at last weekend's Patriot League Championships held at the Saucon Valley Country Club in Center Valley, Pa. Pete Phipps finished fourth and Kevin Lee tied for sixth place to lead the Black Knights at the conference championships
