PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - The Army golf team concluded its regular season with a fifth-place showing at the URI Spring Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Green Valley Golf Club in Portsmouth, R.I.

Rhode Island's Jason Lockwood, the individual leader heading into the second day, won medalist honors with a 146 (72-74). Rhode Island, ranked first regionally, won the team title with a score of 609. Rounding out the top five teams were: Connecticut (615), Binghamton (627), Central Connecticut (632) and Army (634).
"We ran out of fuel today," said head coach Jimmy Ray Clevenger. "I think we were tired mentally. We got off to a bad start and we could not rebound.
"We have had a great season. The team won two tournaments and we had two individual winners too. We now need to get refocused and start preparing for the NCAA Regional."
The Black Knights won the Patriot League championship by an impressive 29 strokes last week and received the league's automatic bid to the NCAAs. Army now awaits the NCAA selection committee's regional placement decision. The NCAA Regionals will take place May 16-18.
