BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette golf team occupies fifth place after the first day of the Patriot League golf championship on Saturday. The Leopards shot a team score of 468 in the first 27 holes of the 54-hole tournament at Saucon Valley Country Club's Grace Course.
Michael Aarts led the way for the Leopards, shooting a 77 on the first 18 and a 39 on the final nine to place 11th. Bradley Rock (80-37-117) and Garett Copp (77-40-117) are tied for 14th place.
Jeremiah O'Neill is in 23rd after day one, shooting a 121 (81-40). Derek Downing was just a stroke behind him (85-37) in 29th. Michael Troxell holds 36th spot in the 48-golfer field.
Navy is at the top of the eight team field with a score of 442. Two Mids, Brian Crum and Billy Hurley, lead the field with identical scores of 107.
All eight teams will close out the championship with 27 holes on Sunday.
