Greg Sullivan's mother is upset that her son is going to miss his first Thanksgiving dinner with the family, but that's OK as long as he's playing football.
Sullivan and Colgate are still alive in the postseason thanks to a 28-27 victory over Holy Cross on a snowy Saturday afternoon in Hamilton. The victory gave Colgate its sixth Patriot League title and a berth in the Football Championship Subdivision -- formerly Division I-AA -- tournament round of 16.
The Raiders will play at Villanova at 1 p.m. Saturday. Four wins produces a national championship.
Sullivan, who led Monroe-Woodbury to two state title games, has been a catalyst in the Raiders' championship run. The sophomore had to fill in for injured starter Alex Relph in the opening game of the season. Sullivan had convinced himself that he would return to the bench as soon as the senior captain Relph got healthy, but the Colgate coaches like the dimension Sullivan brings to the offense and he has not yielded the starter's job.
