LEWISBURG, Pa. - Two players who were key in the Bucknell football team's 27-24 victory over Fordham on Saturday earned weekly awards from the Patriot League on Monday. Senior DE Samuel Oyekoya (Lanham, Md./Gonzaga) was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week, while freshman RB Brian Regan (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Oyekoya was part of a defense that limited Fordham to three second-half points as he registered five tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. His 13-yard sack of QB Ryan Higgins as the Rams approached field goal range on their final drive down by three points nearly clinched the game for Bucknell (2-7).

In his first year as a regular starter Oyekoya tied his career highs for both sacks (2) and tackles for loss (3) on Saturday. He has posted two sacks in a game twice this year, both times in Bison victories.

A veteran of 39 career games who has 15.5 sacks, Oyekoya is just one-half sack away from joining the program's career top-10 list. His 7.5 sacks this year lead the Bison and are the most by a Bucknell player since future NFL player Sean Conover in 2004. Oyekoya is atop the Patriot League in sacks and is tied for 18th nationally in sacks per game.

Oyekoya enters this coming weekend's game at Georgetown with career highs in tackles (30) and tackles for loss (11.5) this season. He now has 74 tackles and 24 tackles for loss in his four-year career.

Regan was named Rookie of the Week after returning three kicks for 94 yards against Fordham. He had returns of 40, 37 and 17 yards and the Bison scored on the ensuing possession after two of his three returns. Bucknell's average drive start after Regan's returns was its own 40-yard line.

A running back who received his first career carry on Saturday, Regan has returned a team-high 17 kicks for 402 yards this year. His 23.6 kickoff return average ranks third in the Patriot League and places him 41st nationally. Regan is just 83 kickoff return yards shy of breaking into the Bison single-season top-10 list.

Oyekoya and Regan are the first two Bucknell players to earn weekly awards from the Patriot League in 2012. Both were also honored for the first time in their careers.

The Bison will return to action Saturday, Nov. 10, when they play at Patriot League foe Georgetown. Bucknell has defeated the Hoyas each of the last four years, including by a 35-18 score at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium one year ago.
