CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Three Patriot League teams won on the road Saturday, and each of those squads had student-athletes honored with weekly awards on Monday for their performance in the victories.
Fordham had a pair of honorees after its 36-32 win at Holy Cross, with senior quarterback Ryan Higgins named Offensive Player of the Week for completing 38-of-56 passes for 407 yards and a touchdown and also rushing for a score while senior punter/kicker Patrick Murray earned his fifth Special Teams Player of the Week award of the season after making all three of his field-goal attempts and averaging 46.7 yards on six punts.
Colgate senior linebacker Patrick Friel was recognized as the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for recording 16 tackles and two sacks in a 47-33 win at Bucknell, while Georgetown freshman running back Jo'el Kimpela is the Rookie of the Week after running for a career-high 80 yards and catching a five-yard touchdown pass in a 20-17 win at Lafayette.
Honorable mention status went to Colgate junior quarterback Gavin McCarney, Holy Cross sophomore quarterback Ryan Laughlin, Fordham senior running back Carlton Koonce and Georgetown junior defensive back Stephen Atwater.

Offensive Player of the Week
Ryan Higgins, QB, Fordham Sr., 6-3, 220 (Merrick, N.Y./Chaminade)
Higgins completed 38-of-56 passes for 407 yards and a touchdown and also ran for a score in Fordham's 36-32 win at Holy Cross on Saturday. He set career highs for completions and attempts and was six yards away from his career best. Higgins' rushing touchdown put Fordham up 29-24 in the fourth quarter, and he completed 10-of-12 passes for 61 yards in Fordham's game-winning drive that ended with Carlton Koonce's one-yard touchdown with 11 seconds left. Higgins has completed 126-of-177 passes (71.2%) for 1,347 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions in the past three games. He is named Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the first time.
Defensive Player of the Week
Patrick Friel, LB, Colgate Sr., 6-3, 225 (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles East)
Friel notched 16 tackles and two sacks to help Colgate hold off Bucknell 47-33 on Saturday, putting the Raiders on top of the Patriot League standings with a 3-0 record. He had 10 solo stops on his way to the season-high total of 16 tackles. Friel's final sack ended Bucknell's final scoring opportunity. Friel leads the Raiders in tackles (79), tackles for loss (6.5) and sacks (4.5) and earns his first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week award.
Special Teams Player of the Week
Patrick Murray, P/K, Fordham Sr., 5-7, 182 (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco Prep)
Murray's spectacular 2012 season continued on Saturday as he made all three of his field-goal attempts and averaged 46.7 yards on six punts in Fordham's 36-32 win over Holy Cross. All three of the field goals came in the first half from 36, 45 and 23 yards as Fordham took a 23-10 lead at intermission. Murray leads the nation with 18 field goals for the season, and is 10th in the country in scoring. He downed two punts inside the 20, and is second in the FCS with a 46.4 punting average for the year. He is named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week for the fifth time this season, and third consecutive week where he was in action.
Rookie of the Week
Jo'el Kimpela, RB, Georgetown Fr., 5-10, 185 (Democratic Republic of the Congo/Euless Trinity (Texas)
Kimpela carried 16 times for 80 yards and caught a five-yard touchdown pass in Georgetown's 20-17 win at Lafayette on Saturday. The rushing yardage was a career high, and the touchdown reception gave Georgetown a 13-10 third-quarter lead in a back-and-forth game. Kimpela receives his first Patriot League Rookie of the Week award.
Gavin McCarney, QB, Colgate Jr., 6-2, 192 (Jefferson Township, N.J./Jefferson Township)
McCarney ran 18 times for 121 yards and three touchdowns, his third straight 100-yard effort, and completed 10-of-18 passes for 163 yards and a score in Colgate's 47-33 win over Bucknell Saturday.
Ryan Laughlin, QB, Holy Cross So., 6-2, 198 (Glen Mills, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara)
Laughlin set career highs across the board by completing 18-of-23 passes for 223 yards and three touchdowns and rushing for 36 yards and score in the Crusaders' 36-32 loss to Fordham on Saturday.
Carlton Koonce, RB, Fordham Sr., 5-8, 180 (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley)
Koonce carried 34 times for 175 yards and two touchdowns and caught seven passes for 64 yards in Fordham's 36-32 win over Holy Cross on Saturday.
Stephen Atwater, DB, Georgetown Jr., 5-11, 190 (Duluth, Ga./Peachtree Ridge)
Atwater had an interception, forced fumble and three pass breakups in Georgetown's 20-17 win at Lafayette on Saturday.
