Five Teams Tied For First After Lehigh Beats Georgetown
It's getting crowded at the top of the Patriot League standings, as Lehigh's 27-0 shutout victory over Georgetown on Saturday put five of the League's seven teams in a tie for first place with 1-0 marks in League action. The Mountain Hawks joined Bucknell, Colgate, Holy Cross and Lafayette in winning their League opener. Each squad beat Georgetown except for Colgate, which took down Fordham.

Colgate Looks For An Edge Before League Play Heats Up
The Patriot League season gets going in full force on Oct. 24, with the headliner coming as No. 17/18 Colgate visits No. 25/24 Holy Cross in Worcester. The Raiders have a chance to get a leg up on the Crusaders and the rest of the Patriot League contenders this weekend, as Colgate visits Georgetown in the only League contest on Saturday. The Raiders have won all six meetings against the Hoyas, though the teams did not play last year due to an illness outbreak on Georgetown's campus. Colgate is the only team among the five tied for the Patriot League lead that has yet to play Georgetown.

Season Series with the Ivy League At Stake
For the past two years, Patriot League teams have finished with a 9-9 record against their like-minded foes from the Ivy League. The matchups between the two leagues are competitive again in 2009, with a 7-7 record heading into the final four contests between the leagues this weekend. Two Patriot League teams will host any Ivy League foe, as No. 25/24 Holy Cross takes on Dartmouth and Lehigh welcomes Yale. The two road dates for Patriot League teams are Lafayette at Harvard and Fordham at Cornell. The Patriot League last recorded a winning record in the season series against the Ivy League in 2004, when the PL finished with a 9-6 mark.

Colgate, Lafayette Win Nail-Biters, But Holy Cross Falls
The past weekend provided a perfect example of the competitive nature of the Patriot/Ivy matchups, as three of the four contests went down to the wire. The action started on Thursday, as Colgate outlasted Princeton, 21-14, in double overtime in a game shown live on ESPNU from Princeton Stadium. The Raiders had to tie the score in the first overtime, and scored first in the second extra session before stopping Princeton. Nate Eachus had each of the overtime touchdowns while rushing for 102 yards. Lafayette had its last-second magic in regulation, as Maurice White scored on a two-yard touchdown run with 13 seconds left to lift the Leopards over Columbia, 24-21, in Easton. Lafayette had fallen behind 21-10 at the half. Holy Cross tried to come back as well, as the Crusaders rallied from 14 points down to tie the score at Brown with 1:49 to play in the fourth quarter. But it was the Ivy League Bears that had the last-second heroics, as Brown hit a field goal with three seconds left to give Holy Cross its first loss, 34-31. Bucknell also fell at Penn, 21-3. Fordham defeated Bryant, 35-7, as the Patriot League won the season series with the Northeast Conference for the second straight year.

Raiders and Leopards Own the Ivies
Colgate and Lafayette have six of the Patriot League's seven wins against Ivy League competition this year, with each squad holding a 3-0 mark against Ancient Eight foes. Colgate has a six-game win streak against Ivy League competition after sweeping Dartmouth, Cornell and Princeton for the second year in a row. Lafayette has won the first three of a four-game swing against Ivy League foes, and has four straight victories dating back to last year. The Leopards play the one team they haven't figured out on Saturday, as Lafayette has lost eight in a row against Harvard.

Colgate Among the "Fab Five" Of Undefeated FCS Teams
Colgate improved to 6-0 with the win over Princeton on Thursday, and is in very elite company among the FCS ranks. The Raiders are one of only five remaining undefeated teams in the nation, along with No. 1 Richmond, No. 3 Montana, No. 4 New Hampshire and Butler. Colgate's six-game season-opening win streak is its longest since winning its first 15 games in 2003, and the Raiders are at 6-0 for just the eighth time in school history. Colgate's 14-game regular-season win streak is the longest in the nation. Holy Cross fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, as the Crusaders were off to a 4-0 start for the first time since 1991.

Colgate Moves Up, Holy Cross Stays In FCS Rankings
Colgate and Holy Cross remained in each of the major FCS polls on Monday, with the Raiders now taking the higher ranking of the teams after the Crusaders' loss to Brown. Colgate came in at No. 17 in The Sports Network top 25 and No. 18 in the FCS Coaches poll, up six spots in each ranking. Holy Cross fell six spots to No. 25 in the TSN ranking, and four to No. 24 in the coaches' poll. Lafayette received votes in each ranking.

Randolph Has The Patriot League Records, Now Onto FCS Marks
Holy Cross quarterback Dominic Randolph sealed all of the major Patriot League passing records on Saturday, as he became the League's attempts leader with his first pass against Brown. Randolph's mark of 1,511 attempts joins his following numbers as the top mark in Patriot League history: 956 completions, 11,376 passing yards, 11,870 yards of total offense, 98 passing touchdowns, and 110 touchdowns responsible for. He also has the Patriot League records for 300-yard passing games (21), 400-yard passing games (seven) and games with 400 yards of total offense (eight). Now, those outstanding numbers have Randolph moving up the NCAA FCS career leaderboard. He is ninth all-time in touchdown passes, and is just two away from becoming the ninth player with 100 touchdown throws or more. Randolph is 11th in both passing yards and total offense. He already owns the all-time FCS record with an active streak of 34 consecutive 200-yard passing games, and stands 165 completions and 169 attempts away from breaking FCS career records.

Nobody Running It better than Colgate
Colgate had another big day on the ground in the win over Princeton on Thursday, as the Raiders rushed for 219 yards behind 102 from Nate Eachus, 65 from Jordan McCord and 52 from Greg Sullivan. That actually dropped Colgate's average to 267 per game for the season, but the Raiders still comfortably lead the nation in rushing average. Colgate's ground attack also has them at the top of the FCS leaderboard with an average of 36:12 per game in time of posssession. Third-down play has helped that statistic, as the Raiders are second in the nation in converting third downs (51.1 percent) and 14th in limiting opponents to a 27.8 success rate on third down.

Patriot League Teams, Individuals At Top of FCS Stats
Holy Cross, Fordham and Colgate are still among the leaders in individual and team offensive statistics, and a couple of Patriot League teams and individuals are now climbing their way up the defensive leaderboard as well. Colgate continues to lead the nation in rushing average, while Holy Cross is second in passing yardage per game. Fordham, which is in the top 20 in each category, ranks second in the nation in total offense while Holy Cross is seventh and Colgate comes in 13th. Fordham is also third in the nation in third downs, while Colgate is first in time of possession (with Lafayette eighth) and second in third-down conversion percentage. Holy Cross quarterback Dominic Randolph and Fordham quarterback John Skelton are 1-2 in the nation in total offense for the fourth week in a row, and switch places for the third straight time as Randolph comes in first at 377.2 yards per game. Randolph also leads the country in points responsible for and passing yards per game. Lehigh has 14 sacks in the past two weeks to move into a nice spot in that category, as the Mountain Hawks are fourth in the country with 4.0 sacks per game. Senior linebacker Matt Cohen has six sacks and eight tackles for loss, ranking third and 12th, respectively, in the FCS in each category. Bucknell rounds out the list of high rankings as the Bison are tied for second in the nation with 12 interceptions.

Home Sweet Home For Patriot League Teams
Patriot League teams have played 18 of their 28 non-League games at home, and have an 11-7 mark on their home field while carrying a 4-6 record on the turf of their opponents. Patriot League teams play 21 of 35 non-League games at home this season. Lehigh has four of its five non-League contests at home, while every other team except Bucknell plays three non-League games at home.

Patriot League Teams Hit the Airwaves
Patriot League fans won't have to go far to keep track of the action in 2009, with 24 games scheduled for regional or national television. Colgate visited Princeton in a nationally-televised game on ESPNU on Thursday. Lafayette once again televises each of its contests through the Lafayette Sports Network.
