USA College Football Players of the Week
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - A second Holy Cross freshman received a national weekly honor on Wednesday when linebacker Kyle Young was selected as the USA College Football FCS Rookie of the Week.
Young had five tackles, a tackle for loss and two key forced fumbles as Holy Cross rallied for a 31-28 win at Dartmouth on Saturday. The first forced fumble came in the third quarter and set up a Holy Cross touchdown that tied the score at 21-21, while the second was on a kickoff return with 46 seconds left in the game to give the Crusaders possession after they had taken a 31-28 lead. Young became the first freshman named Patriot Leagu Defensive Player of the Week since at least the 2000 season.
Young joins Holy Cross freshman quarterback Peter Pujals as an FCS weekly award winner following the Dartmouth game. Pujals, who was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, was also selected as The Sports Network FCS Freshman of the Week after throwing for 290 yards and two touchdowns and rushing for 125 yards and two scores in the victory.
Young is the second Patriot Leaguer honored by USA College Football after Lehigh senior quarterback Brandon Bialkowski was selected as the organization's FCS Offensive Player of the Week last Wednesday.
Young and the Crusaders will play their final non-League contest when they host Harvard on Saturday at 1 p.m., a game that can be seen on Patriot League Network and is being broadcast by WCTR Charter TV 3.
