Sports Network FCS Top 25 | FCS Coaches Poll
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Lehigh and Fordham each rose in the national FCS polls on Monday, and both teams are now ranked in the top 15 as they prepare to face off in the Bronx on Saturday at Noon on CBS Sports Network.
The Mountain Hawks were the big mover on Monday, going up seven spots to No. 10 in the FCS Coaches Poll and eight to No. 13 in The Sports Network top 25. The big leap came after Lehigh beat then No. 7/10 New Hampshire 34-27 at home on Saturday. The Mountain Hawks are ranked in the FCS top 25 polls for the 37th consecutive week, the sixth-longest streak in the nation, and reached the top 10 for the third year in a row.
Fordham also continued its rapid ascent in the rankings, as it went up four spots to No. 12 in The Sports Network poll and three to No. 13 in the FCS Coaches Poll. The Rams debuted at No. 21/21 in both polls only two weeks ago, and were ranked No. 16/16 last week.
The Lehigh-Fordham matchup on Saturday will be the first between top-25 Patriot League teams since 2009, when three such games were played.
The Mountain Hawks and Rams were not the only programs to receive national news on Monday, as Holy Cross quarterback Peter Pujals was also selected as The Sports Network FCS Freshman of the Week. Pujals had a breakout performance in Holy Cross' 31-28 win at Dartmouth on Saturday, completing 25-of-37 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns without an interception while also rushing for 125 yards and two scores on 17 carries. He led a 14-play, 67-yard drive that ended up in the game-winning field goal with 51 seconds left after earlier rallying the Crusaders from a 14-point deficit.
