Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week

Greg Sullivan, Colgate Jr., QB, 6'1, 204, Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury
Sullivan had an outstanding game to give a Colgate a victory to open its Patriot League schedule, as he totaled 298 yards and three touchdowns in a 20-12 win over Fordham on Saturday. He carried the ball 21 times for 109 yards and a score, and completed 12-of-19 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns. It was the fourth game of his career and second this season in which he passed and rushed for over 100 yards. Sullivan is eighth nationally in pass efficiency, 23rd in total offense and 30th in rushing yardage per game, helping the Raiders lead the FCS in team rushing. He earns Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season and third in his career. It is the third straight week that a Colgate student-athlete claims the award.

Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week

Michael Schmidlein, Lafayette Jr., LB, 6'1, 206, Chester, N.Y./Chester Academy
Schmidlein recorded 16 tackles to help Lafayette limit Ivy League favorite Penn to just 17 points in a 20-17 overtime victory over the Quakers on Saturday. He also recorded a tackle for loss and pass breakup as the Leopards held Penn to just 2-of-13 on third-down conversions. Schmidlein leads the Patriot League and is seventh nationally with 11.7 tackles per game. He earns his first Defensive Player of the Week award.

Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week

Patriot League Notebook

Three's Company at The Top of Patriot League Standings
Colgate joined Holy Cross and Lafayette in a three-way first-place tie in the Patriot League on Saturday, as the Raiders held on for a 20-12 home victory over Fordham in the Patriot League opener for both schools. Greg Sullivan had 298 total yards and three touchdowns (one rushing/two passing), while Pat Simonds caught nine passes for 159 yards and a score and Jordan McCord had 192 yards on the ground. The Colgate defense recorded seven sacks, and the Raiders had a 41:30 to 18:30 edge in time of possession.

Will Bucknell Make It Four?
Bucknell has a chance to add its name to the group of 1-0 Patriot League teams on Saturday as the Bison play their League opener at home against Georgetown, which has dropped League contests to Lafayette and Holy Cross. It is the only Patriot League contest for the day. The Bison will have to overcome a pattern to win, however, as the road team has won the last four meetings between the schools.

Two Patriot League Teams Ranked for First Time Since 2005
For the first time since the final rankings of the 2005 season, two Patriot League teams cracked the top 25 in The Sports Nework FCS poll on Monday. Colgate entered the rankings at No. 25 after beating Fordham, 20-12, to move to 4-0 on the season. The Raiders are in the poll for the first time since ending the 2008 season at No. 16. Holy Cross, off to a 3-0 start, remained at No. 21 after its bye week. The Crusaders have been ranked since the preseason, steadily climbing up from No. 25. The preseason ranking was Holy Cross' first by The Sports Network since 2002. The last time two Patriot League teams appeared in the top 25 was in the final poll in 2005, when Lafayette was at No. 21 and Colgate was No. 23 after making the FCS playoffs. Holy Cross moved up one spot to No. 22 in the FCS Coaches poll, where Colgate is the top team receiving votes.

Patriot League Teams Split Close, Low-Scoring Weekend
Colgate's 20 points were hardly a huge scoring output, but it was the highest total for a Patriot League team in regulation in a weekend where all four non-League games were decided by three points or less. Lafayette did score 20 as well, with the Leopards getting their final three points on Davis Rodriguez' 28-yard game-winning field goal in overtime for a 20-17 win over Penn. Bucknell also used special teams to get in the victory column, with the Bison blocking an extra point in the final minute of a 17-16 home win over Marist. Lehigh and Georgetown both fell at home in nailbiters, with the Mountain Hawks dropping a 17-14 decision to Princeton and the Hoyas losing to Howard, 14-11. Before the weekend, none of the previous 14 non-League contests had been within three points.

Mixed Bag Ahead for Non-League Weekend
One team plays a long-time rival. Another faces a regional rival it rarely plays. One squad looks for its first win in a series, while another plays an opponent for the first time. It's a diverse set of non-League action for five Patriot League squads on Saturday, the first date of the season where all seven Patriot League teams take the field. There are three games against Ivy League opponents, with No. 25 Colgate hosting Cornell and Lehigh welcoming Harvard while Lafayette visits Yale looking for its first-ever win over the Bulldogs. No. 21/22 Holy Cross will play regional foe Northeastern on the road for the first time, while Fordham hosts first-year program Old Dominion.

Holy Cross, Colgate Both Off to Best Start In Years
Colgate and Holy Cross remain unbeaten going into October, making them two of just 13 undefeated teams left in the Football Championship Subdivision. Colgate holds a 4-0 record for the first time since winning its first 15 games and making the national title contest in 2003. That was Colgate's only other 4-0 start in Head Coach Dick Biddle's 14 seasons, with the last prior 4-0 opening coming in 1983. The Crusaders are at 3-0 for the first time since 2000, and will look for their first 4-0 start since an undefeated season in 1991 when they play at Northeastern. Holy Cross has won nine of its last 10 games going to back to last year, while Colgate has 12 consecutive regular-season wins and 12 of 13 overall.

In the Win Column?
Georgetown, Fordham and Lehigh will all go looking for their first victory this season on Saturday. The Hoyas are 0-4, while the Rams and Mountain Hawks are both 0-3. Lehigh is at 0-3 for the first time since opening at 0-4 in 1982. Fordham was last 0-3 in 2005, when the Rams dropped their first seven contests. Georgetown had an 0-4 start in 2007, which the Hoyas snapped at seven with a win over Bucknell.

Holy Cross' Randolph Eyes Another Record
Holy Cross quarterback Dominic Randolph has a ninth League record in his sight on Saturday, as he enters the contest against Northeastern just 25 attempts away from the record of 1,459 held by Lafayette's Marko Glavic (2000-03). Randolph is now over 11,000 career yards of total offense (11,087), 100 touchdowns responsible for (101), and 900 completions (902). He is already the Patriot League career record holder in each category, along with records in passing yardage, 300-yard games, 400-yard passing and total offense games and touchdown passes. The Walter Payton Award candidate is in the top 20 in FCS history in passing yardage, total offense and touchdowns, and already holds the FCS record with an active mark of 32 consecutive 200-yard passing games. His current averages in passing yards and total offense per game would rank in the career top 10.

Colgate Grounding It Out
After a 299-yard performance against Fordham on Saturday, Colgate now leads the FCS with 260.3 rushing yards per game this season. Jordan McCord (108.0) and Greg Sullivan (89.0) are the top two rushers in the Patriot League, and rank in the top 30 in the country. Colgate is also in the top 10 nationally in first downs, time of possession, third down conversion percentage and pass efficiency. The Raiders are 12th in total offense with 421.5 yards per game.

Holy Cross, Fordham Airing It Out
While Colgate leads the nation in rushing, Holy Cross and Fordham are doing their damage through the air with two prolific senior quarterbacks. The Crusaders are in the top five nationally in passing and total offense, with Dominic Randolph leading the nation with 367.7 yards of total offense per game and placing second with 327 passing yards per contest. Fordham quarterback John Skelton makes the Patriot League 1-2 in total offense in the FCS, as he is right behind Randolph with 346 yards per game while placing fifth in passing yards per contest at 311.7. Skelton has helped the Rams rank sixth nationally in passing offense and 11th in total offense.

Home Sweet Home For Patriot League Teams
Patriot League teams have played 13 of their 18 non-League games at home, and have a 7-6 mark on their home field while carrying just a 1-4 mark on the turf of their opponents. Patriot League teams play 21 of 35 non-League games at home this season. Lehigh has four of its five non-League contests at home, while every other team except Bucknell plays three non-League games at home. The Patriot League plays an all Division I schedule, facing off with five FCS conferences. The slate includes 18 games against Ivy League foes.
