Fordham University junior punter Patrick Murray (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) was honored by the College Football Performance Awards by being named the NCAA FCS Punter Performer of the Week it was announced today. This is the second College Football Performance Award garnered by Murray this year and his fourth over the past two years.
In Fordham's 21-17 loss at Rhode Island on Saturday, Murray punted eight times for 417 yards, an average of 52.1 yards/punt, with four of his punts traveling more than 50 yards, including a 73-yarder. The 73 yard punt tied his career-high as the second longest punt in school history (the Fordham record is 85 yards by Len Eshmont in 1939). Murray also booted a 73-yard punt at Colgate in 2009.
Additionally, six of Murray's eight punts landed inside the Rhode Island 20.
On the year, Murray has punted 18 times for 854 yards, an average of 47.4 yards/punt, tops in the NCAA FCS. He has eight punts of longer than 50 yards and nine of his 18 punts have landed inside the opponent's 20.
Earlier this summer, Murray was named to the 2011 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Punter Award Watch List.
The Rams will open the Patriot League portion of their 2011schedule on Saturday, October 1st, as they travel to Hamilton, N.Y., to face the Colgate University Raiders at 1:00 p.m.
