LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell football senior defensive end Josh Eden (State College, Pa./State College Area) was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and the Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week on Monday following a terrific all-around performance in Saturday's 34-9 Bison win over Princeton. Eden recorded a safety, registered a half-sack, recovered a fumble inside the Princeton 10-yard line, returned an interception 27 yards for his first career touchdown and recovered an onside kick.

Eden was almost singlehandedly responsible for all of Bucknell's 17 first-half points. He was credited with the safety, recovered a fumble at the Princeton nine-yard line that three plays later turned into a touchdown and he returned the interception for a touchdown just before halftime.

In addition to all of his other accolades, Eden totaled five tackles, bringing his season total to 18.

Eden's first-half sack vaulted him into the top 10 in Bucknell history in sacks. He now has 16 in his four-year career, tying him with Roosevelt Smith and Eric Green for eighth place in program history.

A team co-captain, Eden led Bucknell's defense that forced six turnovers and limited Princeton to just nine points. It was the fewest points for a Bison opponent since Georgetown managed just six points in a 2009 contest.

Eden is Bucknell's first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week since 2009. He was named the Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week earlier this year after blocking an extra point in the season-opening win over Duquesne.

A two-time First Team All-Patriot League selection, Eden has 162 career tackles and 32.5 tackles for loss in his four-year career that has featured 37 starting assignments. He is tied for the FCS career record for blocked extra points (7).

Eden and his Bison teammates will return home this weekend to open Patriot League play against Georgetown. Kickoff at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium is at 1 p.m. It is the first game in a four-week stretch where Bucknell will play at home three times.
