CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After winning hard-fought games on the road over the weekend, Fordham, Lehigh and Georgetown had student-athletes reap the benefit by earning Patriot League football weekly award honors on Monday.

Fordham senior running back Carlton Koonce ran for 250 yards, including a Patriot League record-tying 92-yard touchdown, in the team's 20-13 win over Columbia to earn the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week award for the second straight time. Lehigh senior linebacker Billy Boyko had 14 tackles, a sack and one huge interception that he returned 39 yards for a touchdown to lead No. 13 Lehigh to a 28-26 victory at Liberty on Saturday and earn his first Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week award. The remaining honors went to players from Georgetown after the Hoyas' 21-20 win at Princeton on Friday. Junior kicker/punter Matt MacZura was named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week for making the game-winning 33-yard field goal with 14 seconds left and going 3-for-3 in the game, while freshman defensive lineman Dezmond Richardson recorded seven tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack to claim the League's Rookie of the Week honor.

Honorable mention status went to senior quarterbacks Andrew Shoop (Lafayette) and Michael Colvin (Lehigh) on offense, Dustin Wharton (Georgetown) and Shane Dorner (Lafayette) on defense and Patrick Murray (Fordham) on special teams.

Patriot League Football Weekly Awards (Sept. 21-22)

Offensive Player of the Week
Carlton Koonce, RB, Fordham Sr., 5-8, 180 (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley)
Koonce tied for the longest scoring rush in Patriot League history and recorded the 15th-best rushing performance in League annals with 250 yards on 35 carries in Fordham's 20-13 win at Columbia on Saturday. He broke off a League record-tying 92-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, the longest for any player since 1998. Koonce also added an 18-yard touchdown reception in the period to score Fordham's only touchdowns of the game. The 250-yard game is the fourth-highest in the FCS this year, and third in Fordham history. After a 176-yard game last week, Koonce is fifth in the nation with 152.0 rushing yards per game for the year. He earns a second straight Offensive Player of the Week award.

 

 

Defensive Player of the Week
Billy Boyko, LB, Lehigh Sr., 6-2, 235 (Northampton, Pa./Northampton)
Boyko had 14 tackles, a sack and one huge interception that he returned 39 yards for a touchdown to lead No. 13 Lehigh to a 28-26 victory at Liberty on Saturday. The tackle total marked a career high and the interception was a career first, coming in the fourth quarter to give Lehigh a 28-20 lead and serve as the game-winning score. Boyko is named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week for the first time.

Special Teams Player of the Week
Matt MacZura, K/P, Georgetown Jr., 6-2, 225 (Cranberry Township, Pa./Central Catholic)
MacZura hit the game-winning 33-yard field goal with 14 seconds to go to send Georgetown to a 21-20 win at Princeton on Friday evening. He also made kicks of 25 and 26 yards in the first half to go 3-for-3 on the night, and punted six times for a 38.2 average with two inside the 20. MacZura is named Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week for the second time in his career.

Rookie of the Week
Dezmond Richardson, DL, Georgetown Fr., 6-2, 225 (Euless, Texas/Euless Trinity)
Richardson played a role in a huge defensive effort for Georgetown on Friday by recording seven tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in a 21-20 win at Princeton. It was his first career start and helped the Hoyas hold the Tigers to 286 yards of total offense. Richardson earns his first Patriot League Rookie of the Week award.

Honorable Mention
Andrew Shoop, QB, Lafayette Sr., 6-1, 215 (Danville, Pa./Danville)
Shoop completed 22-of-34 passes for 278 yards and a touchdown in Lafayette's 20-14 win at Bucknell on Saturday.

Michael Colvin, QB, Lehigh Sr., QB, 6-3, 230 (Morristown, N.J./Morristown)
Colvin completed 14-of-24 passes for 195 yards and ran for 77 yards and two scores in Lehigh's 28-26 win at Liberty on Saturday night.

Dustin Wharton, LB, Georgetown Jr., 6-0, 213 (LaVale, Md./Allegany)
Wharton totaled 12 tackles, a sack and a key blocked kick in Georgetown's 21-20 win at Princeton on Friday evening.

Shane Dorner, DL, Lafayette So., 6-1, 230 (State College, Pa./State College)
Dorner had five tackles and three sacks to help Lafayette to a 20-14 win at Bucknell in the Patriot League opener.

Patrick Murray, P/K, Fordham Sr., 5-7, 182 (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco Prep)
Murray made 2-of-3 field goals, including a 51-yarder, and punted seven times for a 43.6 average in Fordham's 20-13 win at Columbia on Saturday.
