CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - For the second time in as many days, a Fordham linebacker has been honored for his role in the team's 27-24 upset of No. 8/11 Villanova on Saturday.
Junior linebacker Stephen Hodge earned one of five spots on the weekly FCS All-Star list from College Sporting News following his performance in the victory over the Wildcats. Hodge notched nine tackles, one for a loss, a pass breakup, a sack and a fumble recovery, one of five for the Rams in the game. The defense allowed just three second half points, forcing three of the five fumbles in the half, and allowed the Wildcats to convert on just three of their nine third down attempts in the game. Leading 21-17 at the break, Villanova took the second half kickoff and moved to the Fordham 13 where Hodge was able to knock down a John Robertson pass on third and one, forcing a field goal. Hodge dug out a fumble recovery on a Villanova comeback attempt and the Rams were able to run out the clock for the win.
Hodge is the second Fordham linebacker honored following the victory. His classmate, Victor DiFusco, was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for totaling seven tackles, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in the win.
Fordham has opened 2-0 for the first time since 2003, and sits just outside the FCS top 25 rankings. The Rams will go for their first 3-0 start since 1988 when they visit FBS member Temple on Saturday at 1 p.m. on ESPN3.
