CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The opening weekend winners combined to sweep the first Corvias Patriot League Football weekly awards of the season on Monday as Bucknell notched three recipients and Fordham had one.
Bucknell sophomore running back C.J. Williams, senior linebacker Evan Byers and senior placekicker/punter Derek Maurer were each honored after the team's 42-38 win over VMI. Williams ran for 164 yards and two touchdowns to earn the Corvias Patriot League Football Offensive Player of the Week award, Byers earned the honor on defense for recording a career-high 23 tackles and Maurer was selected on special teams after making all six of his extra points and posting a 42.7 punting average.
Fordham running back Chase Edmonds was named Corvias Patriot League Football Rookie of the Week after a memorable debut where he ran for a school freshman record 181 yards and two touchdowns and led all Division I players over the weekend with 300 all-purpose yards.
Honorable mention status went to Holy Cross sophomores wide receiver Jake Wieczorek and defensive back Luke Ford, Fordham sophomore defensive lineman Marlon Crook Jr., Georgetown senior defensive lineman Alec May and Colgate sophomore defensive back Chris Morgan.

Williams started his sophomore season the same way he finished up as a freshman, racing for a career-high 164 yards and two touchdowns to help Bucknell past VMI 42-38. Williams gained nearly 10 yards per carry as he only rushed 17 times, and had runs of 48 and 49 yards in the game. It was his fifth 100-yard rushing game and fourth multi-touchdown game. Williams has already crossed the 1,000-yard rushing mark for his career (1,063).

Byers racked up a career-high 23 tackles in Bucknell's 42-38 victory over VMI on Saturday. Byers' tackle total is in the top 25 in FCS history (record kept since 2000). It was the top mark for a Bucknell player since at least 2001, and the highest total for a Patriot Leaguer since 2007. He also recorded a tackle for loss, and 12 of his stops were solo. Byers now has 42 tackles in his last two games dating back to last year's season finale, which was also against VMI. He has double-figure tackle totals in seven of the last eight games. Byers stands third among all active FCS players with 286 career tackles.
Corvias Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week
DEREK MAURER, BUCKNELL Sr., K/P, 6-0, 180; Piscataway, N.J./Piscataway
Maurer handled punting, placekicking and kickoff duties in Bucknell's 42-38 win over VMI. He made all six of his extra-point attempts, equaling a career high, averaged 42.7 yards on three punts and put up a 59.0 average on seven kickoffs. It was Maurer's first time punting in his career, and he is now 27-of-28 on PATs.
Corvias Patriot League Rookie of the Week
CHASE EDMONDS, FORDHAM Fr., RB, 5-9, 185; Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East
Edmonds had a memorable collegiate debut by setting a school freshman rushing record with 181 yards and two touchdowns in a 52-23 win over St. Francis (Pa.) on Saturday. He averaged nearly 10 yards per carry as he rushed 19 times in the game. Edmonds also opened his career with a 65-yard kickoff return and returned three kickoffs for 119 yards in the game. His 300 all-purpose yards topped all of Division I football on the opening weekend.

Wieczorek caught seven balls for 149 yards and a touchdown in Holy Cross' 14-13 loss to Albany on Saturday.

May recorded nine tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks in Georgetown's 21-3 loss to Wagner.

Morgan had a career-high 14 tackles and one pass breakup in Colgate's 30-10 loss at Ball State.

Ford had a career-high 11 tackles and two pass breakups in Holy Cross' loss at Albany.
