Matt Bellomo was in a position he didn't want to be last year: A spectator on the Holy Cross sideline.
Last summer Bellomo was poised to play a big role in the Holy Cross offense as a starting running back for the defending Patriot League champions. The former Tri-Valley League MVP and Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year at Holliston High was in boot-camp shape and eager to begin his junior season when he tore a hamstring early in preseason camp.
After several weeks of rehabbing the torn leg muscles, Bellomo returned to the playing field against Georgetown in the fourth game of the season on September 25 in Washington. In limited action against Georgetown, he carried the ball once for four yards and caught a pass for another four yards. That was it for the season.
