  • LEWISBURG, Pa. - The annual Patriot League Football Media Day took place Tuesday at Green Pond Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa. The Bucknell football program was represented at the event by head coach Joe Susan and senior defensive linemen Robert De La Rosa and Josh Eden.

Bucknell returns 21 of 28 starters and 36 letterwinners in 2011 and was tabbed sixth in the league's preseason poll, which was officially announced near the beginning of Tuesday's program. The Bison are heading into the second year of Susan's tenure as head coach and the 25th season of Patriot League football.

Defending champion Lehigh was picked first in the silver anniversary's preseason poll, three points ahead of Colgate. The Mountain Hawks garnered eight first-place votes, while the Raiders registered six. Holy Cross, Lafayette and Georgetown were picked third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Colgate senior running back Nate Eachus was named the Patriot League Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Lehigh's senior linebacker Mike Groome was announced as the Patriot League Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.

Bucknell has four players on its 2011 roster who earned postseason Patriot League honors last year. Eden was voted First Team All-Patriot League for the second time in his career, while De La Rosa landed on the Second Team for the second straight year. Additionally, rising sophomores Travis Friend (Second Team) and Brandon Wesley (Rookie of the Year) were cited last fall.

With Patriot League Football Media Day now complete, the next milestone on the Bucknell Football calendar is the beginning of preseason practice. The first session will take place this Sunday, Aug. 7, at 3:45 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

The Bison open the 2011 campaign with back-to-back home games against Duquesne (Sept. 3) and Marist (Sept. 10). Kickoff for both contests is 6 p.m.
