Patriot League Football 25th Anniversary Team

Offense

Quarterback

Ryan Vena, QB, Colgate (1996-99)
15th Anniversary Team
1996: First-Team All-Patriot League, Patriot League Player of the Year; ECAC Rookie of the Year
1997: First-Team All-Patriot League, Patriot League Player of the Year
1998: First-Team All-Patriot League
1999: First-Team All-Patriot League, Patriot League Player of the Year

Post-Patriot League: After a successful collegiate career, Vena moved to arena football. He played for six years in the AF2, with the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Pioneers as well as the Albany Conquest. He also spent three years in the AFL, with the Iowa Barnstormers and the Columbus Destroyers. Currently, he is the starting quarterback in the AFL for the Philadelphia Soul.

Reaction to 25th Anniversary Team selection: It's just a great honor. It goes without saying to be selected by the coaches and peers that it's amazing to be on the team. There have been some amazing players, certainly some amazing quarterbacks to come through the Patriot League in the last 25 years. It's just a tribute to my coaching staff and my teammates throughout the time I played at Colgate. I'm very honored.

Running Backs

Kenny Gamble, RB, Colgate (1986-87)
15th Anniversary Team
College Football Hall of Fame
1986: First-Team All-Patriot League, Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year; First-Team AP All-American
1987: First-Team All-Patriot League; Walter Payton Award, AFCA, Walter Camp, First-Team AP and Sports Network All-American (consensus First-Team All-American), ECAC Player of the Year, Blue-Gray Classic

Post-Patriot League: Gamble, the winner of the first ever Walter Payton Award as the best player in Division 1-AA in 1987, was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2002. The Kansas City Chiefs drafted him in the 10th round, and he played for them for three seasons, amassing 24 yards and one touchdown. After his NFL career, he began working for Reebok, and today he is Reebok's Vice President and General Manager in the Sports Licensing Division.

Reaction to 25th Anniversary Team selection: This is a great honor and a privilege to be named to the Patriot League's 25th Anniversary Football Team, especially since the Patriot League has turned out so many great football players during this time period.

This honor is even more special because of the long lineage of great running backs Colgate has produced over the years, some before my time (Mark Van Eeghen, Rich Erenberg, Henry White, etc) and certainly after (Randall Joseph, Jamaal Branch, Jordan Scott and today, Nate Eachus). Hopefully these guys don't mind my selection to the team. I want them to know that with this honor, I'm representing them and the Colgate family of great running backs.

More importantly, I'd be remiss if I didn't thank the guys up front, the ones that made every one of those yards possible, my offensive line. Without their commitment and willingness to put themselves on the line on every play to create the seams I needed to advance the ball down field, certainly none of this would be possible.

Happy 25th Anniversary Patriot League and thank you for the recognition!

Gordie Lockbaum, RB, Holy Cross (1986-1987)
15th Anniversary Team
1986: First-Team All-Patriot League (DB), Patriot League Player of the Year; AFCA, First-Team AP and Sports Network All-American, ECAC Player of the Year
1987: First-Team All-Patriot League (RB), Patriot League Player of the Year; AFCA, Second-Team Sports Network All-American, Blue-Gray Classic, East-West Shrine Game, Senior Bowl

Post-Patriot League: Lockbaum was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1988 NFL Draft. He is now the Vice President at the Sullivan Insurance Group in Worcester. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2001.

Reaction to 25th Anniversary Team selection: On behalf of Holy Cross, our coaches and teammates, I'm humbled and honored to be selected to the Patriot League 25th anniversary team. I was blessed to be a part of some successful Holy Cross teams in the 1980's. While I'm grateful to have been chosen, I fully recognize the contribution of the many exceptional football players on these teams. Not to mention the extraordinary coaching staff that prepared us and gave us the opportunity to win.

Corey Hill, WR, Colgate (1995-98)
15th Anniversary Team
1996: First-Team All-Patriot League
1997: First-Team All-Patriot League; Third-Team Sports Network All-American

Reaction to 25th Anniversary Team selection: I am very honored and humbled to be selected to the Patriot League Football 25th Anniversary Team. I am glad to accept this honor on behalf of Colgate University, my coaches and teammates. I want to give special thanks to the greatest, most supportive family in the world: my dad Prentice Hill, my mom Marilyn Hill, and my sister Stephanie Hill. This selection is truly a blessing, I have been so blessed in my life. When I started playing, I never played for individual accolades, I played for the competition and love of the game. For it to culminate in this is mind boggling!

My time at Colgate was great. I made so many life long friends. The time went by so fast, but left me with so many lasting memories!

Javarus Dudley, WR, Fordham (2000-03)

Reaction to 25th Anniversary Team selection: I am thrilled for this honor and I'm very grateful. On behalf of myself and my family I would like to think all involved in helping me achieve such a great honor. The Patriot League as well Fordham University have been great to me. I enjoyed every moment I had at Fordham. The staff at Fordham both athletically and academically were superb. They helped me have a great college football career and obtain a prestigious degree. The Patriot League is where I was able to showcase my talent and I am glad people believe that I did it in such a unique and polished way.

Tight End

Adam Bergen, TE, Lehigh (2001-04)

In 2009 he signed with the Las Vegas Locomotives in the United Football League. In the two seasons, the team has won consecutive UFL Championships. Bergen also founded and runs a charity, "The 87 Plays Foundation", whose purpose is to reduce budget cuts in school sports programs and aims to provide every child the opportunity to participate in school sports regardless of their financial circumstances.

Reaction to 25th Anniversary Team selection: I was surprised, I didn't even know it was the 25th Anniversary for the Patriot League. It's a great honor. From getting the opportunity to play in the playoffs and being named an All-American and then going on to the NFL, a lot of my accomplishments at Lehigh and in the Patriot League have stayed with me.

Offensive Line

Mariusz Misiec, OL, Bucknell (1994-97)
15th Anniversary Team
1995: Second-Team All-Patriot League
1996: First-Team All-Patriot League
1997: First-Team All-Patriot League

Post-Patriot League: Misiec is currently an advisor at Ameriprise Financial.

Reaction to 25th Anniversary Team selection: This is a great honor. The Patriot League has a rich history of allowing scholar-athletes to excel both in the classroom and on the playing field and I was fortunate enough to have been afforded the opportunity to study and play football at Bucknell University. I am very proud and pleased to be named as a member of this group of the first 25 years of the League.

I believe that Bucknell and its partner schools in the Patriot League afford an opportunity both on the field and in the classroom that is unique amongst other institutions. This opportunity was invaluable to myself and, I'm sure, to my Bison teammates. I have maintained contact over the years with many Bucknell alumni and have been consistently impressed by their successes both during their time at Bucknell and beyond. I have very fond memories of my time in Lewisburg and being a graduate of Bucknell and of the Patriot League is something of which I will always be proud.

Paul Clasby, OL, Colgate (1996-99)
15th Anniversary Team
1997: Second-Team All-Patriot League
1998: First-Team All-Patriot League
1999: First-Team All-Patriot League; AFCA, First-Team AP and Sports Network All-American

Reaction to 25th Anniversary Team selection: Thank you for selecting me to the Patriot League 25th Anniversary Football Team. It is an honor and I am very proud to be a part of the Patriot League's storied athletic history. I was truly fortunate to have been given the opportunity to play football for Coach Biddle and Coach Foley while attending Colgate University. To this day I feel great pride in being part of Coach Biddle's team. As a first year head coach, Coach Biddle and staff taught the team to win and more importantly taught me, a first year college kid, the importance of positive attitude, accountability, and setting high expectations that would carry through not only my playing years at Colgate but all future endeavors. My experience as a student athlete competing in the Patriot League was very rewarding and has given me a number of fond memories and life-long friendships. Thank you for the honor of being named to the Patriot League 25th Anniversary Football Team.

Post-Patriot League: Hennessey played with the Buffalo Bills in 2009. He currently plays for the BC Lions of the Canadian Football League.

Reaction to 25th Anniversary Team selection: I am honored and thrilled to be selected to the Patriot League's 25th Anniversary Team. The memories I have from my time at Colgate University and the Patriot League will be with me always, but they would not be possible without the tireless efforts of my coaches and fellow players. I share this honor with all of them.

Will Rackley, OL, Lehigh (2007-10)

2009: First-Team All-Patriot League, Third-Team AP All-American

Post-Patriot League: The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Rackley in the third round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Rackley was selected 76th overall, the highest-ever pick out of the Patriot League.

Reaction to 25th Anniversary Team selection: It is a great honor to be selected. My four years at Lehigh have been some of the best of my life. I've met great teammates and great people that I will cherish forever.
