LEWISBURG, Pa. - Long-awaited spring-like weather is set to arrive this weekend, just in time for what should be a busy and entertaining two days for the Bucknell football team. On Saturday night at 8 p.m. at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium, the Bison put the lid on the 2007 spring practice session with the annual Orange vs. Blue Spring Game. Then on Sunday afternoon, the team welcomes all area youths back to campus for the Ninth Annual Football Family FunFest.
Saturday night's spring game will also air live on WVBU 90.5 FM in Lewisburg and on the Internet at BucknellBison.com and SportsJuice.com. Doug Birdsong and George Burman will provide the commentary. The Internet broadcast, as well as admission to the game, is free of charge.
The Bison roster has been divided into two teams this year, with new defensive coordinator Andrew Cohen taking the reins of the Orange team and offensive coordinator Ashley Ingram coaching the Blue team. With a few exceptions in the special teams areas, all regular football rules will apply. The team's four quarterbacks, along with a handful of other players, will rotate in for both sides.
The bulk of the first-team defense will suit up for the Orange team, including returning starters in LB Ryan Slater, DB Brigham Farrand and DL Todd Rinaldo. Defensive linemen such as Ryan Walsh, Josh Eden and David Young will see time for both teams.
The Blue team has many returning offensive starters to go head-to-head with the defensive first-teamers on the Orange side. Veteran offensive linemen Chad Glasser and Jonathan Grainger will help pave the way for backfield starters Josh DeStefano, A.J. Kizekai and Roosevelt Davis and receivers Daniel Zvara, Cale Cadman and Alex Odenbach.
The Family FunFest runs from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. Young fans will have a chance to interact with Bison players and cheerleaders in a variety of activities, such as running the obstacle course, passing, catching, kicking and much more. There will also be a pizza party exclusively for members of the Junior Bison Club. Admission is free.
