WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University football team has placed 30 student-athletes on the Patriot League Football Academic Honor Roll.
Seniors Dan Matheny (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI) and Chudi Obianwu (Southhampton, N.J./Bishop Eustace) highlight the list of Hoyas named to the Honor Roll. Nine other Hoya seniors were also named to the Patriot League Honor Roll.
Matheny, a captain and four-year offensive line starter, is a management major. Obianwu maintains a 3.35 grade-point average as a physics major. He finished the 2009 season with three sacks and 34 solo tackles.
Sophomore Scott Darby (Tewksbury, Mass./St. John's Prep), the Hoyas' starting quarterback, was named to the Honor Roll with a 3.42 grade-point average. Darby finished the 2009 season with a 46.8 completion percentage, throwing four touchdowns and averaging 134.4 passing yards per game.
Eleven seniors, including Zach Barbiasz (Ware, Mass./Ware), Brooks Caston (Dallas, Texas/JJ Pearce), Rick Cosgrove (Chalfont, Pa./LaSalle College), Richard Hussey (North Arlington, N.J./St. Peter's), Brian Josephs (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community), Matt Kinnan (Syracuse, N.Y./CBA), Robert Lane (Greensboro, N.C./Grimsley), Kelvin Moses (Nashua, N.H./Lawrence Academy), Jared Myers (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), Matheny, and Obianwu made the team. The Hoyas also placed five juniors, 10 sophomores, and four freshmen on the honor roll.

To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's seven fall championship sports. A record 155 student-athletes were named to the 2009 Patriot League Football Academic Honor Roll.
