WASHINGTON, D.C. -
The Georgetown University football team placed a league-high 36 student-athletes on the Patriot League Football Academic Honor Roll, in an announcement from the league's Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich on Friday.
Senior fullback Kyle Van Fleet (Williamsport, Pa./Loyalsock), previously named the 2007 Patriot League Football Scholar-Athlete of the year in November, heads up the list of Hoyas named to the honor roll. Van Fleet, a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, better known as the "Academic Heisman", earned a spot on the Academic Honor Roll in all four of his seasons on the Hilltop.
Ten seniors, including Darren Alberti (Atherton, Calif./Menlo), Matt Barbiasz (Shreveport, La./Loyola College Prep), Matt Bassuener (Ware, Mass./Ware), Brent Craft (Jupiter, Fla./Benjamin), Darren Craft (Jupiter, Fla./Benjamin), Michael Greene (Rockville, Md./St. John's), Michael Kallabat (Macomb, Mich./Notre Dame), Christopher MacGriff (Grosse Point Farms, Mich./Univ. Liggett School), Stephen Smith (Upper Marlboro, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and Van Fleet made the team. The Hoyas also placed 12 juniors, eight sophomores and six freshmen on the honor roll.
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the fall semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's seven fall championship sports. A record 122 student-athletes were named to the 2007 football honor roll.
