CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Second-half comeback efforts fell short for both teams as Lafayette and Navy fell on the road on Friday evening. The Leopards dropped an 82-80 final at Fairleigh Dickinson, while the Mids fell 72-65 at Mount St. Mary's.
The Leopards (3-8) came back from a 14-point deficit at Fairleigh Dickinson, battling back throughout the second half and finally tying the score at 80-80 on a layup by Dan Trist with 20 seconds left. However, Fairleigh Dickinson got a tip-in at the buzzer to earn the win. Seth Hinrichs led Lafayette with 27 points and six rebounds, while Trist added 17.
Navy (5-6) fell behind by 14 at the half at Mount St. Mary's, and never could get all the way back after intermission. The Mids got to within 60-58 with 4:45 to play, but saw the Mount score the next nine points to pull away for the win. Four Navy players scored in double figures, with freshmen leading the way at Tilman Dunbar had 18 points and Kendall Knorr added 14.
Four Patriot League teams are in action on Saturday, with Lehigh at St. Francis (Pa.), Holy Cross hosting Dartmouth, Colgate welcoming Albany and Army visiting Penn State in a game shown on Big Ten Network at 4 p.m.
