- Despite a furious comeback in the final minute, Lafayette could not overcome a second-half deficit and fell to Long Island 82-80 on Monday.
The Leopards led by as many as 10 points in the first half, but Long Island went ahead for good early in the second half. Lafayette trailed 77-66 with under four minutes to play, but would not go away as three-pointers by Nick Petkovich and Seth Hinrichs brought the Leopards within one with three seconds left. Long Island added a free throw to its lead, and Lafayette could not get off a shot at the buzzer and fell by two. Petkovich scored a career-high 19 points, while Ryan Willen led the Leopards with 21 and had a career-high seven assists.
Three Patriot League teams are in action on Tuesday, with Bucknell at Binghamton, Holy Cross visiting Columbia and Navy hosting Monmouth. For an updated release heading into those contests, click here
