Patriot League Men's Basketball Recap - 11.19.10
Nov. 19, 2010 Center Valley, Pa. - Patriot League men's basketball teams play all of their games on the road this weekend, and the slate away from home got off to a tough start as Lehigh, Colgate and Navy all fell on Friday night. Lehigh (1-2) appeared to be headed for a victory, but Monmouth ended the game on a 6-1 run in the final minute to come away with a 69-68 victory. The Mountain Hawks led by nine points at halftime, fell behind by seven in the second half then put together an 18-5 run to take a 65-59 lead with 3:39 to play. The advantage was 67-63 with less than a minute to go when Monmouth hit a three-pointer and followed one Lehigh free throw with two of its own to knot the score at 68-68 with 17 seconds to play. Lehigh's C.J. McCollum missed a good look with a chance to win in the final seconds, and Michael Ojo committed a loose ball foul that sent Monmouth to the line for the winning free throw with 1.1 seconds left. Ojo led all scorers with a career-high 23 points, while McCollum added 19 and Gabe Knutson scored 12. Colgate (0-3) took on the top team in the country and left with a 110-58 loss at No. 1 Duke. The Blue Devils built an 18-point lead at halftime and pulled away throughout the second half. Yaw Gyawu led the Raiders with nine points while Mike Venezia had eight as all 11 Raiders scored at least two points. Navy (1-3) opened its weekend at the 2K Sports Classic in Irvine, Calif, and fell to host UC Irvine, 75-60. Navy fell behind by 16 at halftime and as many as 24 in the second half, and was never able to cut the deficit to single digits after that point. Greg Brown led the Mids with a career-high 21 points, while Jordan Sugars scored 12. Saturday represents the busiest day of the weekend with six Patriot League teams in action.
