CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Bucknell continued its fast start to the season with a 62-49 win over New Mexico State on Saturday in the 2K Sports Classic subregional in Niagara Falls, N.Y.
Mike Muscala led the way again, just missing his fourth straight double-double but finishing with 24 points and nine rebounds in the victory. Bryson Johnson added 11 points while Joe Willman scored 10 as the Bison took the lead for good with a 14-0 run early in the first half and pulled away midway through the second half to hold a double-digit lead for the last six minutes. The Bison made 24-of-49 shots in the game while holding the defending Western Athletic Conference champion Aggies to 14-of-48 from the field.
Colgate fell to host Elon 81-72 in the opener of an EA Sports Maui Invitational subregional. The Raiders cut a 20-point deficit to seven but could not get any closer. Four players scored in double figures, as Murphy Burnatowski had 18 points, Mitch Rolls and Damon Sherman-Newsome had 13 and Pat Moore scored 10.
Tournament action continues for the Bison and Raiders on Saturday, as Bucknell faces off with West Alabama and Colgate takes on Coppin State. Lafayette is at Morehead State as it continues to compete in the Barclays Center Classic, and Navy heads to UAB.
