Center Valley, Pa. - Bucknell and Lafayette each held leads into the second half on the road Sunday, but neither team could come away with a win and each dropped to 0-2 on the first weekend of the 2010-11 men's basketball season.
Bucknell played its second game of the weekend at a BIG EAST opponent, and nearly came away with a major upset before falling 72-61 at Marquette. The Bison led for most of the game, holding a 41-33 advantage at the half and a 57-45 lead with just over 10 minutes to go before Marquette scored 24 consecutive points to earn the victory. Bryson Johnson scored 18 points while making 6-of-8 three-pointers, while Joe Willman and G.W. Boon each totaled 11.
The Leopards fought back from a seven-point halftime deficit to take the lead into the second half, and the game was tied with 7:22 left before Rider went on a 10-0 run to pull away for the 80-73 victory. Jim Mower scored a career-high 31 points to lead Lafayette, and the junior connected on 8-of-11 three-point shots. Ryan Willen (12), Jared Mintz (11) and Ben Wheeler (10) also scored in double figures.
Four teams are in action on Monday evening, including defending Patriot League champion Lehigh opening its home schedule against Wagner. Army welcomes Central Connecticut State, while American goes to Albany and Colgate visits St. Francis (Pa.).
