July 23, 2014
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - The Bucknell and Lehigh men's basketball teams each finished among the top in their sport in the classroom in 2013-14 and were honored with Team Academic Excellence Awards from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Wednesday.
In order to earn a NABC Team Academic Excellence Award, institutions in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA Division I and II, must count the grade point averages of all men's student-athletes who competed during the 2013-14 season. The Bison and Mountain Hawks were among more than 125 programs honored for achieving a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better for the 2013-14 season, with under 30 Division I teams pulling off the mark.
The Team Academic Excellence Awards, created by the NABC Committee on Academics, are in their second season. American and Bucknell were honored from the Patriot League last season.
