UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) - Kevin Bettencourt scored 13 of his 16 points in
the second half to lead Bucknell to a 52-47 win over Lehigh on Saturday in the
Patriot League quarterfinals.
The two teams' combined 101 points came close to setting a tournament record
for fewest points in a game. The record of 98 was tied in Saturday's first game
in which Holy Cross beat Army 58-40.
Bucknell will play the top-seeded Crusaders in the semifinals on Sunday at 5 p.m. All four of Sunday's semifinal games (men and women) will be broadcast live by DIRECTV (channel 611).
Matt Logie scored 20 points to lead Lehigh (16-12), which failed to make the
semifinals despite improving on last season's win total by 11.
Bettencourt and Dan Blankenship, who finished with 15, combined to score 28
in the second half to lead the Bison back from a 10-point second-half deficit.
Bettencourt hit four of his five 3-pointers during a 23-6 run that allowed the
Bison to take a 45-38 lead with 2:13 to play.
The Bison (14-14) took the lead for good when Ben Slater hit two free
throws.
Bucknell's defense, which has allowed just less than 59 points per game,
took over from there. They held the Mountain Hawks without a field goal for
nearly 10 minutes while the Bison made their run.
Lehigh, which led 25-17 at halftime, shot just 32 percent from the floor in
the second half and made just 1-of-10 3-point attempts.
