CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Army sophomore Kevin Ferguson has been named the Patriot League Player of the Week for his performance during the final week of the regular season. Ferguson averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 blocked shots per game in the Black Knights' last two games.
In Wednesday's 71-70 loss to regular-season champion Boston University, Ferguson posted his first Patriot League double-double with a career-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. He also matched his own Army single-game record with six blocked shots. It was the third time this season that he blocked six shots in a game. On Saturday, Ferguson scored 17 points, corralled five rebounds and blocked four shots in the Black Knights' 87-84 win over Lafayette.
Ferguson was 15-for-18 from the field (.833) during the two games and shot 70.0 percent (7-10) from the free throw line. His eight field goals against the Terriers matched his career high. He also totaled four assists and a steal in the two games.
For the season, Ferguson finished the regular season sixth in the Patriot League at 5.7 rebounds per game. He led the league with a 64.2 field goal percentage and 2.5 blocked shots per game. During conference play, he tied for sixth in rebounding with 5.8 per contest and paced the league in field goal percentage (.663) and blocked shots (2.6). He was the only player in the Patriot League to shoot 60.0 percent during conference games.
Ferguson enters postseason play with a school-record 73 blocked shots and already owns the Army career mark with 108 rejections.
Ferguson's selection marks the first time since the 2007-08 season that the Black Knights had two different players win the Patriot League Player of the Week honor in the same season (Marcus Nelson & Jarell Brown).
The Black Knights finished the regular season 14-15 overall and 10-8 in the Patriot League. Army posted back-to-back winning seasons during league play for the first time in program history. Army is the No. 5 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will begin postseason play at No. 4 Bucknell on Wednesday, March 5. Tip-off at Sojka Pavilion is set for 7 p.m.
