Colgate Basketball to retire Mike Ferrara's number

Feb. 11, 2005

The Colgate University men's basketball team has announced that its annual "Alumni Weekend" will be held on Saturday, February 19. The day will feature the retirement of former Colgate great Michael Ferrara's number 44 prior to the Holy Cross game. Tip-off is 3 p.m.

Ferrara finished his career with Colgate's all-time scoring record of 1,763 points, while setting records for most points in a season (772) and one game (50).

In 1980-81, Ferrara was the second leading scorer in the nation with a school-record 28.6 points per game. He was ECAC North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and set Great Alaska Shootout records for points in a game (37) and for the tournament (83).

A honorable mention All-America by the "Sporting News", Ferrara was a third round selection by the Washington Bullets in the National Basketball Association draft in 1981.

Bob Duffy, who also has his number 24 retired, will return to Colgate from Arizona to introduce Michael on this special day.
