ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy starting pitcher Anthony Parenti added to his collection of postseason awards as he was recently selected to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star Second Team. The rising senior was named in May as the Patriot League's Pitcher of the Year.
In a ballot that included athletes from perennial NCAA tournament participants such as Virginia, the College of Charleston, Stony Brook, William & Mary, Liberty and Bryant, Parenti garnered enough votes to rank amongst the top four pitchers from the ECAC's membership. He shared honors on the second team with Craig Schlitter of Bryant University.
The Midshipmen's number one starter, Parenti completed his junior season with a 1.52 ERA and an 8-3 record over 12 starts. The left-handed hurler finished his campaign with 82.2 innings pitched and 74 strikeouts, while holding opponents to a .203 batting average. Over the first 11 starts of 2013, he allowed two or less runs in all 11 appearances, including three complete game shutouts and two combined shutouts. In those five shutouts, Parenti never permitted an opposing base runner to reach third base. Pending the outcome of the final week of collegiate baseball action in Omaha, he is slated to finish the year ranked top-25 in three categories, ERA, WHIP and complete games.
