CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Three players from Army and one from both Bucknell and Holy Cross were named All-Region players by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Army junior starting pitcher Chris Rowley and Holy Cross junior closer John Colella were both named to the All-Northeast Region First Team. Army senior first baseman Kevin McKague and senior catcher J.T. Watkins were named to the All-Northeast Region Second Team. Bucknell senior outfielder Bob Donato was named to the All-East Region Second Team.
Rowley, the Patriot League Pitcher of the Year and First-Team All-League starter, went 11-1 with a 2.40 ERA. He finished the season ranked seventh in the NCAA in wins and third in WHIP with a 0.88. He tossed six complete games, striking out 80 batters in 97.1 innings. Opponents batted just .190 against him.
For the second time in his career, McKague earns all-region honors, after leading the Patriot League in hitting with a .379 average. The Patriot League Player of the Year had 75 base hits, 16 doubles and five home runs. McKague also had a 1-0 record as a reliever, with a 1.46 ERA and five saves in 12.1 innings.
Watkins, who was named to the All-Patriot League First Team, batted .316 this season with five home runs, nine doubles and 31 RBIs.
Colella appeared in 29 games — 28 in relief — posting a 6-1 record with 11 saves. He boasted a 2.32 ERA in 54.1 innings, holding opponents to a .202 batting average. He struck out 53.
Donato led the Bucknell offense, batting .362 with 32 runs scored, 16 doubles, six homers and 31 RBIs. He had a 21-game hitting streak early in the season and had at least one hit in 38 of 46 games.
