CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - For the fourth straight season and sixth in the last nine years, the Patriot League representative will head to the University of Virginia for the NCAA Baseball Regionals as Bucknell opens against the host Cavaliers on Friday afternoon.

The Bison, who are the fourth seed in the regional, will face the top-seed Cavaliers on Friday at 2 p.m. on ESPN3. Second-seed Arkansas and third-seed Liberty will match up in the evening contest. The regional will run from Friday-Monday at Davenport Field as the four teams will play a double-elimination tournament for the right to advance to next week's Super Regional against the winner of a regional that includes South Carolina, Maryland, Old Dominion and Campbell.

Bucknell (30-19-1) is making its sixth NCAA appearance, all since 1996. The Bison last qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2010 and lost to host South Carolina and Virginia Tech in the Columbia Regional. Bucknell is 1-10 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with its victory coming in 2008 at No. 4 national seed Florida State.

Bucknell earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament by winning the Patriot League Tournament as the top seed in the four-team field. The Bison swept both fourth-seeded Navy and third-seeded Lehigh in best-of-three series at Depew Field to win their sixth Patriot League title. Bucknell enters the NCAA postseason having won 22 of its last 30 games and is one victory shy of equaling the program record for wins in a season.

Virginia, the No. 3 overall national seed, was the third seed in the recent ACC Tournament and won six of its final eight regular-season games. The Cavaliers are a regional host school for the fifth consecutive year, and fourth straight against a Patriot League opponent. The Patriot League representative has never won a game at the Charlottesville Regional, as Lehigh (2006), Lafayette (2007), Navy (2011) and Army (2012 and 2013) each went 0-2 in their appearances.

The last victory for a Patriot League team in the NCAA Regional came in 2009, when Army won a pair of games to become the only League squad to make a regional final. Bucknell's victory over Florida State in 2008 was the only opening-game win for a Patriot League team, while other victories in the regional round came from Fordham (1993), Navy (2002) and Bucknell (2005).
