CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Lehigh and Navy earned berths in the Patriot League Baseball Tournament on Saturday to join Bucknell and Army in the field of four which will begin with three-game semifinal series on May 10-11.
The seeds were set on Sunday, with Bucknell (15-5) clinching the No. 1 seed in the field by splitting a doubleheader with Holy Cross. Army (14-5) will play as the No. 2 seed after sweeping Navy on Sunday, and can share the regular-season title with a win in a make-up game against Lehigh on Monday.
The top-seed Bison will host fourth-seed Navy (9-11) in one semifinal series, while the other matchup will feature third-seed Lehigh (10-9) at second-seed Army. Times are still to be announced for the series on May 10-11.
Two-time defending champion Army makes the Patriot League Tournament for the eighth year in a row. Bucknell is in for the second season in a row and sixth in the last seven years, and captures the No. 1 seed for the first time since 2009. Navy makes the League Tournament for the fourth year in a row. The trio has combined for the last six League titles, with Army winning three (2009, 2012, 2013), Bucknell two (2008, 2010) and Navy one (2011). Lehigh is in the postseason for the first time since 2010 and will go for its first League title since 2006.
The 2014 Patriot League Baseball Tournament begins with the semifinals on May 10-11, and the highest remaining seed will host the championship series tentatively scheduled for May 17-18. Both the semifinal and championship series will be a best-of-three, and every game will be scheduled for nine innings.
