Lehigh third baseman Matt Geiger was three-for-five with a triple and two runs batted in, but it wasn't enough as host Temple held off the Mountain Hawks by a 5-4 score at Ambler Field on Wednesday afternoon. The loss is Lehigh's second straight, dropping the Mountain Hawks to 13-17 on the season. Temple is 7-19 with the win, its first in three tries against the Mountain Hawks this season.
Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Lehigh took the lead for the first time when back-to-back doubles from catcher Geoff Campbell and left fielder Kevin Gordon made the score 2-1 in favor of the Brown and White.
The see-saw affair continued an inning later, after the Owls knotted the score at 2-2 with an unearned run scored off starter Joel Hockman. In the third, Geiger singled home Nick Bet to put Lehigh back in front, 3-2.
Temple quickly tied the score in the bottom of the inning, thanks to a sacrifice fly from first baseman Lucio Rainelli.
The score remained tied at three until the home half of the sixth. Temple built a 5-3 lead when shortstop Casey Sellen singled home a pair off Lehigh sophomore Andrew Grim.
The Mountain Hawks got one back in the seventh, when Geiger tripled home first baseman Matt McBride. However, Lehigh could get no closer, and the Owls hung on for the win.
