Center Valley, Pa. - The Army baseball and softball teams each opened Patriot League play with a four-game sweep over the weekend, and after outstanding performances senior Alexis AuBuchon and junior Chris Rowley were each lauded by the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) on Tuesday.
AuBuchon was named ECAC Softball Player of the Week as she excelled while the Black Knights opened League play with a sweep at home against Holy Cross. Rowley was honored as the ECAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for a one-hit shutout of rival Navy, as the Black Knights swept the Mids in Annapolis in a rematch of last year's Patriot League Championship series.
AuBuchon batted .684 with 10 runs scored and 12 RBIs to lead Army to a perfect 6-0 week, which included the four-game sweep of Holy Cross. She went 13-for-19 with 10 runs scored, three doubles, a triple and two home runs with the 12 RBIs. AuBuchon was 8-for-12 with six runs scored, three doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs in the four-game sweep of the Crusaders.
Rowley kicked off Army's four-game sweep with a seven-inning complete-game one-hit shutout on Saturday. Rowley, who lowered his ERA to 1.38 and improved to a League-best 6-0, struck out five and walked none in the win. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth and retired 15 straight batters at one point.
AuBuchon is the third Patriot League softball player honored by the ECAC this year, as Lehigh had Jen Colquhoun named Player of the Week and Rebecca Bliss as the Pitcher of the Week from the organization earlier in the year. Bucknell's Alex Cillo was previoulsy named ECAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
