Visiting Marist spoiled Senior Day at Kamine Stadium for the Lafayette baseball team, taking a 9-0 decision to wrap up the weekend series. The Leopards honored their nine-member senior class prior to the contest.
Lafayette finishes the regular season at 14-35-1, while the Red Foxes move to 23-21.
Bobby Fargnoli led the way at the plate with a 3-for-4 showing, including a double. Andrew Santomauro added an extra-base knock with his fourth triple of the year, and Eric Anderson's single rounded out the Leopards' five-hit afternoon.
Connor Ortolf started on the mound and pitched the first four innings, falling to 1-4. Chris Boyce ceded one earned run in two frames of action, while Derek Gussaroff, Jack Rems and Jeff Snell each turned in scoreless outings to wrap-up the work on the hill.
Chris Bielak (2-2) pitched the first six frames for Marist, and Kevin McCarthy earned his third save with three scoreless innings to close the game.
The Red Foxes posted two runs in the first inning and three more in the second to open up a lead. Marist would add another tally in the sixth and posted a trio of unearned runs in the late innings to round out its 9-0 victory.
The No. 4-seeded Leopards will begin the Patriot League Tournament on Saturday, May 12 with a doubleheader at top seed Army. If necessary, game three of the best-of-three semifinal series will be played on Sunday, May 13.
