Four Patriot League Student-Athletes Earn All-Region Honors
Nov. 25, 2009 Center Valley, Pa.--Four Patriot League men's cross country student-athletes were named to the 2009 USTFCCCA Division I Cross Country All-Region Teams. All four were placed on the All-Mid-Atlantic First Team. Navy led the way with two selections, junior Andrew Hanko and sophomore James Pearson. Hanko earned all-region honors for the second-straight year with his 13th-place finish among 197 runners at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Championship. The Patriot League Runner of the Year finished the 10,000-meter course in 32:16.4, just 34.4 seconds behind individual champion Andrew Bumbalough from Georgetown. Hanko led the Midshipmen across the finish line in all seven of his races this fall, highlighted by three individual titles. Pearson was named to the All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team for the first time in his career following his 23rd-place time of 32:43.4. The Second-Team All-Patriot League runner scored in six of his seven races and delivered four top-15 finishes this year. Named to the All-Region team from American was junior Colin Eustis, who placed 24th overall in a time of 32:47.8. Eustis was a First-Team All-Patriot League selection after finishing sixth at the Patriot League Championship. Also earning All-Region accolades was Lehigh's Evans Kosgei, the 2009 Patriot League Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Kosgei wrapped up the season with a 17th place finish at the NCAA Regional Championship, covering the 10k course in a time of 32:36. He was also a Second-Team All-Patriot League selection in 2009. The top-25 finishers at each of last weekend's regional championships earned all-region accolades by the USTFCCCA.
