Navy's Prom Named Patriot League Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Center Valley, Pa.- Navy senior Bill Prom was voted the Patriot League Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, it was announced Wednesday. Prom is the second Navy men's cross country runner in Patriot League history to win the award.

Prom, an honors history major with a 3.43 cumulative grade-point average, was a member of the 2006 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. The senior has been named to the Superintendent's List in four semesters and the Commandant's List in all six semesters at the Naval Academy.

A 2007 Second-Team All-Patriot League selection, Prom has been Navy's top runnier in four of six meets. Prom owns three top-five overall finishes and placed among the top-45 at the Iona Meet of Champions and Roy Griak Invitational. Prom's performances earned him Patriot League Runner of the Week honors twice this season.

Prom is the second consecutive Patriot League Men's Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year from Navy. John Kress won the award in 2007.

To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.

The Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for each individual sport comprises the pool of nominees for the Patriot League Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards given out over the summer. One male and one female are selected for this honor.
