American men and Bucknell women claim 2005 Patriot League cross country titles

The American University men's team claimed its fourth consecutive Patriot League cross country title, while the Bucknell women captured their first crown since 2001. The League meet was held today at the Goodman Course on the campus of Lehigh University.

On the men's side the Eagles finished in first place for the fourth straight time with 22 points defeating their nearest competitor by 49 points. Army placed second overall with 71 points, while Navy claims third with 79. Rounding out the men's team standing in the 8,000-meter race were Lehigh (85), Bucknell (147), Lafayette and Colagte (165), and Holy Cross (256),

American's Steve Hallinan was tapped the Patriot League Cross Country Runner of the Meet with his 24:27 performance. AU's Brendan Fennell, Kevin Tschirhart, and Conor Lanz finished second, fourth, and sixth respectively to earn First Team All-League Honors.

First Team All-League honors also went to Colgate's Michael Hanlon, who placed third with a time of 24:34 and Navy's Joshua Sink who finished fifth with a time of 24:43. Army's Faraz Bala rounded out the first team finishing seventh with a time of 24:51.

Second team all-star accolades were awarded to eight-14th place finishers. Those honorees include Army's Philip Sakala (eighth) and Micahel Kluueber (11th), as well as American's Awit Yohannes (ninth) and Pat Burford (12th). Navy's Ty Rose finished 10th while Lehigh's Rob Hampson and Brendan Glover finished 13th and 14th.

The Bison of Bucknell won the women's race, claiming their first title since 2001, with 42 points, Army finished second with, 67 points and Lehigh finished third with 77. Rounding of the remainder of the women's 6,000-meter race were American (102), Navy (105), Lafayette (132), Colgate (152) and Holy Cross (246).

Bucknell was led by Jennifer Stevens who finished fourth with a time 21:14, claiming All-League first team honors. American's Keira Carlstrom claimed her third consecutive individual title finishing with a time of 20:19, which earned her third Women's Runner of the Meet Award. AU's Zaia Wharton also captured second team all-league honors for finishing eighth.

Other first team members were Lehigh's Jennifer Schappert (20:54), who placed second and Andrea Luebbe who had a seventh place finish (21:43). Rounding out the first team was Navy's Justine Whipple (third), Army's Ashley Urick (fifth), and Bucknell's Leanna Nastase (sixth).

Second team all-leaguers included Bucknell's Erin Hart Cranmer (ninth), Lauren Bicker (11th), and Kayla Halloran (12th). Lafayette's Katie Schultes finished 10th while Army's Meghan Curran (13th) and Jill Hajec (14th) rounded out the teams.

Freshman of the Meet on the men's side went to American's Tchirhart and to Army's Curran on the women's side. Male Cross Country Coach of the Year went to the Eagles Matt Centrowitcz while Female Cross Country Coach of the Year went to Bucknell's Kevin Donner.
