Patriot League Cross Country Release 10.21.08

Center Valley, Pa.- All eight Patriot League squads are preparing for the Patriot League Championships on Nov. 1. Eight Patriot League teams are ranked in the Oct. 20 USTFCCCA Regional Polls. Student-athletes from Army, Navy and American won Patriot League Runner of the Week awards.

Male Runner of the Week

Jonathan Anderson, Army Sr., Cinnaminson, N.J.

Anderson bested the second-place finisher at the Navy Star meet by 30 seconds as he led the Army men's team to a win over archrival Navy, 27-28. Anderson's time of 24:02.8 in the men's 8k was good for a first-place finish of 24 runners at the meet, and was his fourth consecutive race as Army's top scorer.

Female Runner of the Week

Katie Rentz, Navy So., San Diego, Calif. Rentz led all runners across the finish line for the first time in her career as she led the Mids to a 15-48 win over Army at the Star Meet. Rentz ran the women's 6k in 22:17, the eighth-best ever recorded at the USNA Cross Country Course. Navy's 33-point margin of victory was the largest ever recorded in the series history.

Male Rookie of the Week

Ken Bunnell, Navy Fr., St. Johnsbury, Vt.

Bunnell was Navy's third-fastest runner on the day, placing sixth of 24 runners with a time of 24:54.7 in the men's 8k at the Star Meet. It was the first time Bunnell scored in an 8k race this fall, and his clocking was more than 1:30 faster than his last race at the Iona Meet of Champions. Bunnell was the fastest freshman to cross the finish line in Saturday's race.

Female Rookie of the Week

Octavia Rinehardt, American Fr., Virginia Beach, Va.

Rinehardt finished second overall and a full 10 seconds ahead of the Leopard Invitational's third-place finisher with her time of 21:24.60 in the women's 6k. Rinehardt helped lead her team to a second-place overall finish of eight teams, including Lafayette, Rutgers, Seton Hall and La Salle. Rinehardt's time was also her personal best in the 6k.

Eight Patriot League Squads Ranked in USTFCCCA Polls

Five Patriot League men's teams and three Patriot League women's teams are ranked in the Oct. 20 USTFCCCA Regional Polls, the organization announced Monday. For the men, Navy is ranked 10th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, the highest ranking of all Patriot League men's teams. The Mids are followed closely by Lehigh (11th), American (12th) and Bucknell (15th) in the region. Army is ranked 12th in the Northeast Region. For the women, Navy comes in ranked sixth, followed by Bucknell in eighth position and Lehigh in 11th position.

2008 Patriot League Championships

The 2008 Patriot League Cross Country Championships will take place on Nov. 1 at Lehigh University at 11 a.m. The top-14 finishers in both the men and women's race will be awarded All-Patriot League status, with the top-seven being named to the First-Team and the next seven earning Second-Team recognition.

Team Notebooks

American Carlos Jamieson led the Eagles to their first win of the season at the Leopard Invitational in Easton on Saturday. Jamieson finished second overall in the five-mile race with a time of 25:36. American will next compete at the Patriot League Championships on Nov. 1.

Army The Black Knights beat the Mids 27-28 in the men's race and lost 48-15 in the women's race at Navy's Star Meet. Army will next compete at the Patriot League Championships on Nov. 1.

Bucknell Bucknell's men's team finished seventh of 13 and the women's team finished second of 10 at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday. Bucknell will next compete at the Patriot League Championships on Nov. 1.

Colgate The men's team placed fourth of 22 and the women's team finished 10th of 24 in Saturday's Albany Invitational. Both Griffth Cannon and Julia Tarallo ran personal bests in their respective races. The Raiders will next compete at the Patriot League Championships on Nov. 1.

Holy Cross The Crusaders had no scheduled events this week. Holy Cross will next compete at the Patriot League Championships on Nov. 1.

Lafayette Lafayette hosted the Leopard Invitational on Saturday, with the men finishing ninth of 10 teams and the women finishing third of eight teams. The Leopards will next compete on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Patriot League Championships.

Lehigh Alexis Weiner helped lead the women's team to a fifth place finish of 10 teams, while the men finished sixth of 13 teams at the Princeton Invitational. The Mountain Hawks will next compete on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Patriot League Championships.

Navy Navy men lost 28-27 and the women won 15-48 at the Star Meet against archrival Army. The Mids will next compete on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the Patriot League Championships.
