Lehigh cross country impresses at Penn State National Invite

University Park, PA - Lehigh went to Happy Valley on Saturday afternoon and once again the Mountain Hawks turned in some very impressive performances. The Lehigh men raced to an incredible sixth place finish out of 38 teams in attendance, defeating the likes of Boston College, Kentucky, Bucknell, and Duke in the process. The Mountain Hawk women came in 29th place out of 41 teams in attendance, as sophomore Jen Schappert raced to a 48th place spot, continuing her brilliance on the trail this fall.

The men were led by sensational sophomore Victor Vientos who continues to improve with each passing race, as he crossed the finish line in a time of 26:30, placing him in 35th place. Classmate Sean Swift was right on his tail, running the race in a time of 26:34 and placing 41st. Junior Rob Hampson (46), seniors Alex Hudgins (51), Mark Swanson (63), Sam Kirk (74) and sophomore Brendan Glover (87) closed out the scoring for the Mountain Hawk men, who accumulated 216 points on the day. Patriot League foe American took first place in the race with 49 points. Ryan Sheehan won the event with a time of 25:22.

On the women's side, placing behind the front running Schappert was Carolyn House in the 155th spot with a time of 23:28. Other lady Mountain Hawks to finish were senior Deanna Willard (164), junior Tracie Fails (204), sophomore Sarah Seiler (235), and juniors Olivia Basu (252) and Karen Welby (254). Providence won the race with just 49 points, while Friar teammates Kim Smith and Mary Cullen took the top two spots with times of 19:46 and 20:23 respectively.

Lehigh returns to action on October 30 when the Mountain Hawks travel to Bucknell University in Lewisburg to compete in the Patriot League Championships.
