WASHINGTON -
The American University men's cross country team was ranked third in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Division 1 Cross Country regional preseason poll, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced Monday.
Georgetown and Princeton were each ranked ahead of AU with fellow Patriot League members Navy, Bucknell and Lehigh coming in at eighth, tenth and 13th respectively.
The Eagles opened their season last weekend with a second place showing at the Mount St. Mary's Invite. Brian McCabe (New Rochelle, N.Y./Fordham Prep) finished the 5K race in second place and was named the PL Male Runner of the Week. Two other Eagles, Conor Sullivan (New City, N.Y./Don Bosco Preparatory) and Greg Leach (Little Silver, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) placed in the top ten helping AU to a 4-1 mark in the head to head scoring.
AU travels to Annapolis, Md., Saturday, Sept. 15, to compete in the Navy Invitational.
